Why do religions have different distributions?
A. Describe what a universalizing religion is and what an ethnic religion is. Explain the differences in the origin of universalizing and ethnic religions.
- A universalizing religion appeals to people living in a wide variety of locations and an ethnic religion, and an Ethnic religion is a religions that are primarily associated with one ethnicity. The differences in the origin of universalizing religion and ethnic religions are that universal religions has a single historical indivivual and ethnic relgions have unknown orgins.
B. Compare the diffusion of universalizing and ethnic religions.
- The diffusion of universal religons and ethnic is that Universal religions can be easly spread all around the world without being tided to the land but for ethnic religions they are extreamly tied to the land they do not travle vary far from their orgins.
II. Where are religions distributed?
A. Describe the distribution of the major religions
- The distribution of major religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Christianity is in the Europe and Western Hemisphire. Buddhism is located in East Asia. Hinduism is located in South Asia and Islam is located in other regions in Asia and in North Africa. These religions are universal religions in whice they spread easly because they are not tied to the land.
B. Describe the distribution of the major branches of Christianity
The major branches of Christianity are Roman Catholic, Protestants, and the Orthodox. The Protestants are located North-West Europe and North America. For Orthodox they are located mainly Eastern Europe, and the Roman Catholics are located in South-West Europe and Latin America.
C. Identify the major branches of Islam and Buddhism
The major branches of Islam are Sunni and Shiite, and the major branches for Buddhism are Mahayna and Theravada.
D. Describe the distribution of the largest ethnic religion
- Some large enthnic religions are clustered in Asia but the largest ethnic religion is Hindhism. Hindhism is manly clustered in India.
Why do religions organize space in distinctive patterns?
A. Explain why places are sacred in universalizing religions
- Places are sacred in universalizing religions because they link to the founders(prophet) life. These places can also be a place where their god(s) or spirt etc might have visited or had a important event.
B. Analyze the importance of physical geography in ethnic religions.
The importance of physical geography in ethnic religions are because holy(sacred) places derive from the physical geography of a region can be where and how the religion can practice, this can also show how the religion can be clustered.
Why do territorial conflicts arise among religious groups?
A. Analyze reasons for religious conflict in the Middle East.
- One reason there is religious conflict in the Middle East is because there are many regions that are vary important to certain religions. There are also places where it use to belong to another religion and they get moved and a new religion is now trying to change things to thier religion. Lastly there is a conflict because some religions will but heads and have different views on the way life should be ran.
B. Explain the importance of Jerusalem to Jews, Muslims, and Christians
Jews
Jerusalem is important to Jews because its a holy city, and Jews consider the soil and the air to be holy and sacred. Jerusalem is also important enough because they named it the capital for Judaism.
Muslims
For Muslims its important enough that they must pray twords it five times a day, because it carry a special place for the city in their hearts and has a strong emotional association to it. Jerusalem is also important because there is this sacred building called the Dome Rock is there.
Christians
Jerusalem is important for Christians because that is where Jesus Christ was brought to preached to the poor and where he was crucified in the end of his life, and resurrected by God.
